The New Year

It's Wednesday and New Years Eve is in two days. I'm kind of freaking out because this is the last year of basically my childhood. Wow...yeah. Scary. I'm not big on New Years resolutions cause they just make you feel bad cause almost no one finishes them. However, I am gonna make a list of things that are gonna happen in the New Year. Just stuff I've been thinking about.

1. I'm graduating high school. :/ I've been in this same place for the past four years and while I'm so excited for the change that comes with college, I'm still freaking out. I mean, I am never going to live at home again. That is scary and exhilarating.
2. I'm going to college. I still don't know where I'm going, but I know what I want to do so that is really grounding me and allowing me not to spaz out every time I think about it. I'm excited to move away and meet new people and finally get to study what I'm interested in.
---These next ones aren't as life changing as the previous two---
3. I'm getting a Mac! I haven't had my own laptop since Winter 09. Mine just exploded (not literally) I have to steal my dad's work laptop and he needs it for...work...and it is just not cool. So, I convinced my parents to get me a Macbook for college. I'm getting it early cause I really need it.
4. I'm going to New York! Yeah, after my last blog where I talked about how I couldn't go to NYC my parents surprised me and I get to go with Angels. I have never been and I still get to go with my friends who are great so I'm pumped!
5. I'm turning 18. That's pretty cool I can buy lotto tickets. Booyah! I hope you caught the sarcasm there. I don't know what I'm gonna do when I turn 18 but hopefully it'll be cool.

I have a challenge for myself for 2011. I don't consider it a resolution because I'm not trying to change myself or improve myself or whatever. I just want to know I can do it. I am going to try to read 50 books. I got the idea from this YouTuber: http://www.youtube.com/user/booksandquills and thought I would try it out.
So, the rulers are as follows:
1. Every book I read counts. It doesn't matter if I've already read it, if I'm reading it for school, or for pleasure. If I read it, it counts.
2. I will write a review about every book. I think I'm gonna do 5 books at a time and make just short little snippets...liked the book or didn't.
3. Along with the reviews I will give them a rating. 1 - Do not read this book! to a 10 - OH MY GOD this book was amazing! ---Yeah, that was eloquent. Look at my extensive vocab.

So, that's what's coming up this year. I'm gonna try to read 50 books and freak out over college. AWESOME!

Today's recommendation: A Very Potter Musical/Sequel - any Harry Potter fan will find this funny. Put time aside to watch this, I just finished A Very Potter Sequel today and it was hilarous.

Christmas and P4A

So, everyone is at school right now recovering from the weekend and our Monday snow day...which was pretty awesome. However I am not at school and I am very thankful for that. I'm not sick or anything, I just had a concert this morning and thought it would be stupid to only go to in for 2 classes. And I have nothing to do and nothing exciting has really happened but I feel like writing, so here goes...there will probably be no real content in this blog.
This year we put our Christmas tree in our living room so we could enjoy it and it really is making me happy. We turn the lights on the second it gets dark and I can smell the pine (since we get real trees) and it's putting me in the Christmas spirit. It also helps that although I personally ordered a bunch of my presents from "Santa" online myself, there is still a bunch of stuff I haven't seen. While this makes me feel really nostalgic for my childhood when I was so excited for the surprise, it is also killing me cause I hate surprises.
Also, I've been getting really stir crazy lately. The combination of being a senior, my teachers loading us with work, and break being in a few days I just really want to go on an adventure. I almost did but unfortunately my friends and I can't go and it's sad. But what is making me happy is the impending Project for Awesome. On Friday Dec. 17, 2010 you should go to the link below and be apart of the Project for Awesome on YouTube. Cause it's well...awesome. When(not if) you go to the link and watch the videos you'll see why its so amazing.
I guess that's all I have to say, maybe over break I'll think of something clever to write about.
Till then DFTBA

Deathly Hallows

So I'm a pretty huge Harry Potter fan. My third grade teacher read us Sorcerer's Stone and I loved it but I really got into the series in 5th grade. Harry Potter has affected me in a way that I can't really articulate and a lot of people don't understand. Yeah, but I obviously went to the midnight showing of Deathly Hallows last week and I want to talk about what I liked and didn't like (there wasn't a lot I didn't like). I'm just gonna do this in list form cause it'll be easier. *There will be book and movie spoilers in the post*

Likes:
1) The Obliviate Scene - I really liked this scene because it gave something to Hermione that really hasn't been in the films
2) Bill Weasley - I thought he just seemed like a cool guy. I wanted to be friends with him and I think that's what Jo wanted when she wrote him
3) Mundungus Fletcher - He was so skeevy. Not at all how I pictured him but I really liked Dung
4) Hedwig's death - I hated how she just died in the book. I didn't feel like there was a lot of closure in that scene so I enjoyed how she got her last moment
5) Fred and George scene - I love love that they kept the "holey" line it was delivered very well and the twins really never get meaty parts so I liked the bit of emotion that got during the scene
6) A strong picture in my head from DH was in Grimmauld Place when Harry wakes up and sees Ron and Hermione's hands near each other like the fell asleep holding heads. I really loved that scene and I was excited that they kept that in
7) Ron's leaving scene - Rupert did an amazing job with this part. I thought it was nicely done and very emotional
8) I really liked the Harry/Hermione dance scene. A lot of people didn't like it but I think it showed a part of the strong friendship they have that is rarely seen in the movies because a lot of their relationship is in Harry's head so it was hard to but into film
9) While reading the book I never could picture Nagini coming out of Bathilda Bagshot so that I thought was really weird but defiantly well done
10) I loved the lack of music in this film. I noticed more often when there was no music which I thought was more powerful than a huge blasting song. So props to Alexandre Desplat although I do miss John Williams.
11) Dobby! I love Dobby and I thought his death was beautifully done. I was afraid it was going to be forced and cheesy (i.e the lovely crying scene in PoA) but I loved it.
12) The split is brilliant. It leaves me wanting more which is good for non book readers because they'll come see the next part
13) I liked the Ministry scene also it was well done

Now for the dislikes...this will be considerably shorter

1) I wish they would have added the Harry/Dudley scene because after everything they needed their amens
2) The Remus/Harry scene - I guess it wasn't all that necessary to the plot but I think since Lupin is the last father figure (besides Arthur) that Harry has there should have been more of him. I really love Lupin so maybe that why I wanted this scene so much
3) I was expecting more Malfoy Manor but I wasn't totally upset with what was in the film

Sorry, I think this is obnoxiously long...but I really love Harry Potter. I'm a huge nerd :) I want to see the film again so I can digest the awesome but I'm really happy about how it turned out. Ok nerd rant over.

Hello...

I'm starting this blog because recently I've had this need to just express myself and get my thoughts out there. This has mostly stemmed from my new obsession which is YouTube. I never watched videos mostly because my laptop stopped being able to show videos about a year after I got it, but I started using the family computer and found YouTubers. Mostly I found Nerdfighteria. As I watched the videos by John and Hank Green, I found people who were like me. John and Hank and the Nerdfighters value the same things I do which is something I do not have in real life. I feel that my high schools friends and I have some things in common, but not a lot, and so I feel I have more acquaintances than true friends. And so I want to do this blog because I want to be able to put forth my ideas and opinions, even if it's just for myself.
